Good Friday – and Rock and Roll is also Dead.

March 29, 2013

In the beginning there was music. And it was mostly good. Except for the music that was bad. And you could decide for yourself what was what. So long as your mates didn’t find out you’d bought an Osmonds LP / Bros tape / Take That CD / One Direction download with your pocket money.

OK, further back than that was rock and roll. It deserves capital letters. It’s a proper noun.

Rock and Roll.

Psalm 150 – and why the guitar is an instrument of truth.

February 6, 2013

Have you read Psalm 150? It’s a bit of the Bible which is quite short and to the point, but also very clear on a single issue.

Praise God. Praise him with music, and dancing.

I can’t dance. Read the rest of this entry »

More recording for the Grey Goose

October 8, 2012

Tonight I’m going to Wolverhampton to record some vocals for a few Grey Goose tracks. The sound is much more raw than the studio work we did earlier in the year, at least in part because we’re doing the recording ourselves.

I’m very impressed with the quality of the recording so far and I hope the finished article will be well worth listening to.

I’d like to have a play with home recording myself at some point, but only once I’ve managed to cobble together a bit more gear for live work. Speaking of which, I’m quite happy to do solo gigs if anyone’s interested…

Things about which I have become excited.

September 30, 2012

A number of rather good things are in the offing. I am quite excited about many of them, and thought rather than write individual posts to be published over the next few days I’d share them all in brief and save the detail for later. Read the rest of this entry »

The Grey Goose play ArtsFest

September 5, 2012

It wasn’t what I signed up for in January, but eight months later the Grey Goose Blues Band have a gig at ArtsFest, the big bash in Birmingham this weekend.

On Sunday evening, about half past seven, we’ll be playing on the Radio WM Introducing stage.

I can’t explain quite how exciting this is for me. It’s quite something to play at ArtsFest, which I’ve been lucky enough to do once or twice, but to hit a stage like this having been given airplay by local radio is just brilliant. I can’t wait!

Belt and Braces

February 29, 2012

I played my first big gig as a member of the Grey Goose Blues Band tonight, and it was great. The crowd at The Robin 2 in Bilston was small but enthusiastic, for a school night. As a band, we were well rehearsed, and we did a good job. Read the rest of this entry »
