Big Adventures. With a Dragon

June 3, 2016

I suspect it must be a weakness for the obscure which drove me to name my little company notejuste. A pun in a kind of schoolboy French and also completely available as a domain name. How convenient.

So it’s come as no surprise that my latest venture has wandered into similar territory. From this week, I’m working with two partners to launch and maintain a kind of co-branding exercise to support our efforts (solo and joint) by providing a unified publishing house. Only a week to go…

May 6, 2016

I apologise in advance if this sounds like a sales pitch. It isn’t.

Next Friday the Kickstarter for my second crowd-funded game closes. It’s funded already, and further pledges are pushing the campaign closer and closer towards the first stretch goal which unlocks alternative artwork. Read the rest of this entry »

The Offline Gamer

May 3, 2016

Last Saturday was Tabletop Day, and I disappeared off to Asgard Games for an afternoon of sitting around playing 60. While I was there, I had the honour of being interviewed by Matt from The Offline Gamer. You can listen to that interview on their latest episode.

Many thanks to Vince at Asgard for letting us record in his office and to Matt for his kind words and introduction to the piece. Hurrah for publicity and being able to talk about why it is I love this game creation stuff so much.

60 – The new Kickstarter launches with remarkable kick-off

April 25, 2016

It’s been a while since I risked every ounce of my professional reputation (nothing) on the roll of No Dice, and I’d been working on a new game in the last few months. Finally I managed to get my stuff together and launch this weekend. What a beginning!

Writing about Games, Writing Games to Write About

January 23, 2016

I’m a massive fan of the Metrozone (Petrovitch) series by Simon Morden, and have read a number of his other books. He’s been a speaker at Greenbelt, which was fun to listen to. On the side column of this blog, you can even see the Freezone flag. Click it to find out more.

So, I was delighted to read recently that he’s invented a new game too. Read the rest of this entry »

Pushing the Envelope

January 1, 2016

After the relative success of No Dice, it seemed the right time to admit I’d already been working on an expansion deck.

It’s available only by pre-order, for which the address is given on the No Dice blog. I admit I’m having fun being a captain of industry, albeit on a small scale.

All the rewards have been shipped from the original Kickstarter and the remainder of stock has been selling slowly but surely. If you’d like a regular deck of No Dice please let me know.

Play the Game

September 26, 2015

A very quick post to celebrate the awesomeness of my son’s new board game!

We just played the very first round of Race to Zeus, a game he invented for a school project.

While I am happy to admit I’ve egged him on, most of the original thought behind it is all his. It’s got danger on the roll of a die, blind chance, gods, monsters, fate, and all the wingèd horses you could throw a helmet of darkness at. And of course there is the key question – if you have meeple in sandals with helmets, are they Greekle?

If we can manage it in time, I’ll bring him and a working copy to the No Dice launch on October 10th.

No Dice funding under way

August 31, 2015

I’ve spent this bank holiday weekend with one eye on the total funding pledged to back my new game No Dice. We were doing really well in terms of backing in the first week or so, and have picked up additional support along the way, but we’re into the last seven days now and I have to think about promotion and marketing a little more.

37.1%

August 12, 2015

After only three days, the No Dice Kickstarter has reached £371 of the thousand needed to fully fund it.

I must say I’m very pleased at this, and frankly it won’t happen at all without the unerring support of some very dear friends and family.

While I’m away this weekend tackling the Coast to Coast, it’ll still be up there and I’ll be checking religiously to see if anyone else has jumped on board.

Thanks to everyone who’s already there. A proper roll call of supporters and thanks will be forthcoming if we end up fully funded!

No Dice is live!

August 9, 2015

After fiddling around with the idea for years and spending weeks talking about it, No Dice is finally live on Kickstarter. Do you like card games? Dominoes? Scoring points? No Dice is the game you’re looking for, even if you never heard of it.

The project video is basically just me mumbling at the camera, and the rewards (including T shirts from Eve2 Media) are fairly standard but I’m truly happy with the game itself and welcome everyone on board to get it off the ground.
