Off to play in Kenilworth

November 12, 2013

I’m playing a gig this Thursday in The Tree House Bookshop, Kenilworth.

We’re kicking off around eight in the evening, and it’s free entry (we’ll stick a hat round at some point) and everyone is welcome to join us. It would be lovely to see you.

Ales Beers and Carols 2013

September 28, 2013
Oh Little Town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie.
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep,
The silent stars go by.
Less silent though the clink of glass,
In Walsall pubs this year.
As we sing carols and have fun,
While also drinking beer!

We’re getting the band back together.

September 21, 2013

I’m in a band again. It’s not the usual, in fact far from it. There’s two of us, and the first thing we did as a band was to split up. Now we’re putting the band back together and going on the road. Read the rest of this entry »

Selling Up

September 13, 2013

In 1997 I persuaded my Dad to let me spend the inheritance I was due to receive the following year. I blew the lot (not a huge amount, but enough at the time) on a brand new synthesiser. It was a Roland XP-10, and I’ve used it ever since. Read the rest of this entry »

Running Café Church … in a café

July 21, 2013

I went to church tonight. Except it was in Starbucks. Although it was definitely church. But the drinks were definitely by Starbucks.

Oh boy, another long winded rambling post about church and music and stuff. You can have the tl:dr version here: “Church in a café still looks and smells like church, which confuses me a bit.”

There.

Or read on to find out where I’m going with this. Read the rest of this entry »

Day 9 – Sunday 21st July – Chuckery Festival 2013

July 18, 2013

Another gig at the Bandstand? As if last weekend wasn’t good enough, there’s more.

It’s great to see the Chuckery Festival using this venue in Walsall Arboretum. It’s been getting a lot of use since the refurbishment, and what’s particularly special about this event is you can catch the Grey Goose Blues Band and Walsall Jazz Orchestra on the same bill, closing with Fat Lip and plenty of other musical gems to keep you entertained all afternoon.

I can’t recommend this line up enough, and according to the Met Office there might actually be a bit of Sun in our Sunday.

Psalm 150 – and why the guitar is an instrument of truth.

February 6, 2013

Have you read Psalm 150? It’s a bit of the Bible which is quite short and to the point, but also very clear on a single issue.

Praise God. Praise him with music, and dancing.

I can’t dance. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve cooked my Grey Goose

December 14, 2012

In a move which has shocked even me, I’ve left the band. Read the rest of this entry »

Verbal contracts – they aren’t worth the paper…

November 1, 2012

I played my first ever Blues gig as a solo artist on October 14th, 2012. It was an utter disaster.

In their defence, the promotions company probably didn’t realise I wasn’t a regular pop covers artist, and I’m not blaming them for that. Read the rest of this entry »
