This evening the Doorknobs played another charitable gig in aid of the Aldridge Church Centre building fund, and St James’ Church Mere Green.

My role in these affairs is basically to sit at the back of the band on piano, fulfilling the time-honoured position of chord monkey (assistant chord monkey if a guitarist is present) and filling in with blistering improvisation if there are gaps to fill. Read the rest of this entry »


Play the Game

A very quick post to celebrate the awesomeness of my son’s new board game!

We just played the very first round of Race to Zeus, a game he invented for a school project.

While I am happy to admit I’ve egged him on, most of the original thought behind it is all his. It’s got danger on the roll of a die, blind chance, gods, monsters, fate, and all the wing├Ęd horses you could throw a helmet of darkness at. And of course there is the key question – if you have meeple in sandals with helmets, are they Greekle?

If we can manage it in time, I’ll bring him and a working copy to the No Dice launch on October 10th.

Crisis – not what I mean but what it is.
