I just voted for the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner. Or whatever they will be called.
This is now an obligatory blog post pointing out I knew nothing really about them apart from their personal statements on the websites. Personal as in written by other people so they sound good.
One of them is a bishop of some description, and another is (shock and horror!) a woman. Obviously wouldn’t be the same candidate under the current rules in the Church of England.
So the best I can come up with in terms of informed comment is a sideswipe at the General Synod. That’s not a good sign is it? And whichever poor person gets the job is going to be pilloried at the first fall.
And since when do we vote for a second choice? Oh, we do. And have a deputy/vice/assistant PCC standing with them on the same ticket? Really?
Aptly, I walked there in the dark, I walked back in the dark, and what happened in the voting booth (despite adequate lighting) was nonetheless much the same.
